Revising the Constitution

This Thursday, June 4th, the Open Source Club leaders for the 2009-2010 school year will be discussing changes for the following year. All club members are strongly encouraged to use this opportunity to give their feedback about how the next year should be run.

Updating the Constitution

This Thursday, June 4th, we are reviewing and revising the club constitution, as well as working out the logistics of what we will be doing in the next year. Please come ready to offer feedback. Also, as of today the website is open for commenting. Please post any ideas about changes you have on the constitution page. Registration required.

2009-2010 Elections

This meeting is scheduled for:

This Thursday (May 28th), in Dreese Labs room 317, we elected club officers for the 2009-2010 year.

Those who ran for an officer position are listed below. Active members were only allowed to run for one position, And members were required to attend for their vote to be counted. Only full-time students who will be enrolled full-time at OSU were allowed to apply.

Embedded Control for Art & Music

On Tuesday May 19th, Embedded designer, musician, and ex-Imagineer Jamie Robertson will be giving a talk on embedded systems in the art and entertainment world.

Computer Vision & Robotics

This meeting is scheduled for: 
May 7, 2009 - 7:00pm

This Thursday, Robotics guru Scott Preston will show us how to engineer and program mobile robots with web cameras for vision and microcontrollers for communicating with onboard sensors, all from an Ubuntu PC.

The meeting will be held in Dreese Labs room 113 at 7:00.

Advanced Bash Scripting [04/23/09]

This Thursday, 4/23/09, Tom Henretty came to show us some more advanced bash techniques. Tom demonstrated some of the stuff that Jim Dinan didn't have time to get to back when he did his awesome bash talk in December.

Intro to Python [4/16/09]

This meeting is scheduled for: 
April 16, 2009 - 7:00pm

This Thursday, April 16th, Catherine Devlin will be giving us an introduction to the Python programming language.

This presentation is a quick introduction to Python programming using a live graphical demonstration. A simulation of solar system dynamics is built in gradual steps, with Python concepts and syntax demonstrated as we go. This presentation is suitable for anyone who'd like to get started with Python, or who just likes seeing planets blow up.

Effective sshd_config [04/09/09]

This meeting is scheduled for: 
January 9, 2009 - 7:00pm

This Thursday, April 9th, in Dreese 317 , Alek Rollyson will be giving a talk on how to secure your shell server through effective configuration.

Tricks will include:
--Disable root login
--Public/private keys
--Disable X11 forwarding
--Login attempts/timeout
--Only allow certain usersnames to login
--Only allow certain groups to login
--Interaction with PAM
--Allow by ip address
--Block by ip address
