(Attempting) Linux on Anything

This meeting is scheduled for:
Thursday, April 29, 2010 - 7:00pm
Semester:

This Thursday, April 29th at 7PM in Dreese Labs 317, we will be spending the meeting time attempting to install Linux on anything. We have members with PS3's, iPods, XBOX's, Wii's, phones and whatever else you can think of and we are going to attempt to install an operating system of our choice on them. These members are volunteering their hardware for the meeting and recognize that performing these actions may violate warranties and are not responsible for attempts made meeting goers' own electronics. We are only showing these demonstrations as proof of concept that it is possible to put your own software on hardware that, when it boils down to it, is essentially just a computer built for a specific purpose. So, if you are interested in talking about trying to put Linux on anything and everything, come on out and join in on the fun. Hope to see you there!

Can we video tape it?

If you want to bring your own video camera, you are welcome to tape it. If you want it to be taped because you are not going to be there, please tell us soon, so we can see if anyone has a camera to bring.

I might come, but I don't have a video camera.

Can't we rent a video camera from somewhere? I believe Alek mentioned something about us renting one from Source?

All I could find was this: http://lt.osu.edu/equipment-request/

It seems to say that students can borrow equipment for free for work on a course, with permission from an instructor, which does not apply to us. It also says staff can pay to rent equipment, so if we could get someone on staff to rent it, it would be $20.

There may be another way to get equipment, but if there is, I don't know it.

I think Alek mentioned something about renting equipment as a student organization once. I don't know any of the details though. Perhaps it's possible to get one through SOURCE?
